Transfer Success L.A.
The application period for Transfer Success L.A. has closed.
While 80% of entering community college students indicate they want to earn a bachelor’s degree or higher, only 30% of students successfully transfer to a four-year institution within six years, and only 13% earn a bachelor’s degree within those years. Data show worse outcomes for students of color, and the COVID-19 pandemic has deepened these challenges for all students.
In 2020, a subset of the Collaborative initiated a pooled fund focused on COVID-19 recovery for postsecondary education in Los Angeles. The first joint initiative, Transfer Success L.A., seeks to improve transfer pathways between California State University (CSU) campuses and community colleges in Los Angeles County.

Awards
In June 2021, the Collaborative announced grant awards for California State University-Northridge and California State University-Dominguez Hills.
Please note that the Collaborative’s collective grantmaking is invitation-only.
Documenting the Transfer Success LA Initiative
As part of this work, the pooled funders engaged Dr. Eboni Zamani-Gallaher and her team at the Community College Research, Praxis, and Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education to document the work of the grantees. The final report includes profiles of the grantees, emergent findings, and recommendations for those who want to strengthen transfer pathways. You can find the report linked here.
In addition to CSU Northridge and CSU Dominguez Hills, which were grantees through the pooled fund, the report also profiles Cal State Los Angeles and Cal Poly Pomona. The additional CSUs received aligned grants from additional Collaborative members.
